Renderise / Ray Tracing Life

Continuing with the post about computer, pictures and mathematics, like Vectorize Life or Vector Model Art.

Today subject will be art of rendering.

Rendering is the process of generating an image from a model, by means of computer programs. The model is a description of three dimensional objects in a strictly defined language or data structure. It would contain geometry, viewpoint, texture, lighting, and shading information. The image is a digital image or raster graphics image. The term may be by analogy with an “artist’s rendering” of a scene. ‘Rendering’ is also used to describe the process of calculating effects in a video editing file to produce final video output.

If you haven’t notice it yet, the kitchen image on top is not an actual picture but a computer generate image, although it is really photo realistic, cool uh?

The kitchen was not really renderised, but was created with another technique called Ray Tracing

Ray tracing is a technique for generating an image by tracing the path of light through pixels in an image plane. The technique is capable of producing a very high degree of photorealism; usually higher than that of typical scanline rendering methods, but at a greater computational cost.

It works by a method for producing visual images constructed in 3D computer graphics environments, with more photorealism than either ray casting or scanline rendering techniques. It works by tracing a path from an imaginary eye through each pixel in a virtual screen, and calculating the color of the object visible through it.

Ones of the best applications to use Ray Tracing is

POV-Ray

The Persistence of Vision Raytracer, or POV-Ray, is a ray tracing program available for a variety of computer platforms. It was originally based on DKBTrace, written by David Kirk Buckand Aaron A. Collins. There are also influences from the earlier Polyray raytracer contributed by its author Alexander Enzmann. POV-Ray is freeware with the source code available.

Most o the images that you will see here where rendered with POV-Ray.

One of my favorites Artist will be Gilles Tran. Although he said he only do this as a Hobby, I have choose a couple of images from him that I think are the best of the best.
